Policy for 3-year-old and 4-year-old enrolments.

Please note: This is an abridged version of the Tecoma Preschool enrolment policy. For a full copy of the policy, please contact the preschool.

Tecoma Preschool will not discriminate on the basis of age, race, gender, disability, religion or ethnic background for children who are eligible to attend the preschool.

Tecoma Preschool offers two separate programs for children commencing at age three or four. These programs are known as the 3-year-old group/s and the 4-year-old group/s, even though there may be a mixture of ages. The preschool program for 4-year-olds is partly funded by the Department of Education and Early Child Development (DEECD) and partly by parent contributions. The program for 3-year-olds receives no government funding and is partially funded by parent contributions and the preschool itself.

Eligibility

A child will be deemed eligible to join 4-year-old preschool if his/her fourth birthday falls prior to 30 April in the year of enrolment or whatever date is set by the State Government regarding age requirements. A birth certificate will be required as evidence of a child’s age.

A child is eligible to join the 3-year-old group if he/she will turn 3 by 30 April in the year of enrolment. However, due to regulations set by the DEECD, a child may not actually commence in the group until they pass their third birthday. If there are vacancies available in the 3-year-old program, a place can be held until a child turns 3. A holding fee of $5 per session is required. This will ensure the child is enrolled for that year.

Allocation of places

4-year-old program

If applications for the 4-year-old program exceed places, the following criteria will be applied to establish priority:

  • Children who are experiencing disadvantage.
  • Children who attended the 4-year-old program at Tecoma Preschool the previous year and have received funding for a second year of kindergarten, as assessed by the DEECD. Any such offers are conditional on the availability of government funding for the second year.
  • Children who were offered a place to attend in the previous year, but deferred.
  • Children who attended the 3-year-old program at Tecoma Preschool.
  • Children who have had a sibling attend the preschool in the last 4 years.
  • Date of application.

3-year-old program

If applications for the 3-year-old program exceed places, the following criteria will be applied to establish priority:

  • Children who the teacher has recommended take an additional year in the 3-year-old program.
  • Children who were offered a place to attend in the previous year, but deferred.
  • Children who have had a sibling attend the preschool in the last 4 years.
  • Date of application.

The allocation of one session or two sessions to children will also be carried out according to the above criteria.
